International Global Citizen's Award
encouraging young people to become better global citizens
A few useful websites and resources
A good website I have recently come across is aimed at young people wishing to have a positive impact on the planet in their career. It comes from the UK’s Eden Project – concerned with sustainability. It has case studies of people working in the following areas:
-Great Outdoors
- Food & Drink
- Consuming & Waste
- People Power
- Design & Inspiration
- House & Home
- Energy & Water.

Talking of websites, there are now an increasing number relevant to us as educators working to help our students become better global citizens.
These include Global Dimension – a UK website which has information about and links to a wide range of resources. Most of these are from the UK, but are nevertheless useful elsewhere. http://globaldimension.org.uk/
IB’s Global Engage website also has links to resources, including some in French and Spanish. It has a useful section How to engage globally – an introductory guide for teachers. This links to resources from a number of countries in the world giving advice and suggestions on working with students.
An excellent new book (which can be downloaded free online) comes from WWF-UK. Sustainable Schools, Sustainable Futures by David Hicks covers food and farming, energy and water, travel and transport, consuming and wasting, buildings and biodiversity, inclusion and participation, local well-being, and global connections. For teachers of students aged 7-14, although much is relevant to those working with older students. Available for immediate download at http://assets.wwf.org.uk/downloads/sf_full_version.pdf.
