Different approaches to Covid management - Understanding other cultures and outlooks

Understanding other cultures and outlooks

  1. The response to Covid 19 and its management is very different in different countries. In some countries, the virus has been tightly contained by highly efficient measures to trace and isolate those infected, and by severely curtailing travel into and out of the country. In other countries, flights into and out of the country continue without any checks, and there are few measures such as wearing masks or social distancing in place.

IGCA participants could undertake some research on the Covid-19 measures in a few different countries, and see if they can relate the difference to differences in culture, history etc.

(For instance, a number of countries in the Far East have very effective measures for mask wearing and checking temperatures etc. This is partly because they have had previous experience of highly contagious viruses such as SARS or Bird Flu.

Sweden has had few Covid restrictions and no lockdown, but with a relatively low rate of infections and deaths. People have attributed this to the high level of social responsibility and public spiritedness in the people of that country.)
