International Global Citizen's Award

encouraging young people to become better global citizens

Ideas on developing the programme for younger participants (aged 11-13)

It was a pleasure to meet Peter Muir, Discovery Bay College, Hong Kong when I was in HK recently on holiday. (See Peter’s report on the Award at Discovery College on the IGC Award ning, at http://igcaward.ning.com/profiles/blogs/an-update-on-igc-award-at-d...).

During discussions about the Award, Peter mentioned a document about Citizens of Tomorrow, Today – a broadly based award programme developed in Australia. This scheme also provides an award scheme for students, over a two year period.  It includes a set of required activities, for which various numbers of points are required. You can read general information about it at:

When the IGC Award was devised it was left deliberately open, so that it could be used flexibly in different contexts and with different ages. Increasing numbers of younger students (aged 11-13) are engaged in the Award. Peter and I were talking about whether it would be helpful for those students, and for mentors working with students of that age (perhaps for others too?) to offer more structure, along the lines of the Citizens of Tomorrow, Today programme. This could give a further framework for those who wished to use it, in whole or part.

If you think this would be a good idea, and, particularly, if you would be interested in working with others to develop this, then please let me know.
