International Global Citizen's Award

encouraging young people to become better global citizens

As a grassroots project an important way in which information about the IGC Award is spread is through word of mouth from coordinators and others involved in the Award. (No foreign travel is undertaken for the Award – partly to keep costs low, and to ensure minimum carbon emissions relating directly to the Award).

A number of you got to hear about the Award through colleagues and some coordinators have given presentations about the Award at conferences or seminars.

Pathma Naidu, of Pathways World School, Aravali India, has suggested that we designate people who would like to help to spread the word about the Award as Award Ambassadors. She plans to give a presentation about the IGC Award and related activities in her school at the forthcoming IB regional conference.

It would be great if we a number of people were prepared to act as Ambassadors for the Award and I hope that there will be interest in this way of helping the Award to develop and expand.

A suggestion would be that Ambassadors should undertake (at least) one promotional activity for the IGC Award each year.

This could be through such things as arranging to:

  • Make an online post to another website, perhaps relating to global education, or to teaching more generally
  • Write an article in a magazine, newspaper,  or newsletter, for instance “International School” published by the European Council of International Schools, IB World, or any other relevant publicationT
  • Talk about the Award in a presentation at a conference or meeting
  • Visit another school to talk to colleagues about the IGC Award.

We could also work together on formulating a few key slides which could be used in presentations about the Award – and perhaps agree some key points to emphasise about the Award when writing or talking.

If anyone would be interested in getting involved in this aspect of Award development, then please comment her or get in touch at boyd@globalcitizensaward.org
