The Nigerian students’ abduction: engaging in causes via ‘hashtag activism’

The recent abduction of schoolgirls in Nigeria has prompted people to express their concern and call for action for their release. Over a million people have done this through Twitter.

Taking this case as an example, the Learning Network of the New York Times has a student activity on “hashtag activism” or “clicktivism” – ways of supporting causes through simple online support.
