International Global Citizen's Award

encouraging young people to become better global citizens

News from Collège Champittet, Switzerland

Matthew Roberts reports:

“We started the year exploring the notions of being International Global Citizens. Students researched different definitions of the words international, global and citizen, then created collages to illustrate them using images from magazines. Pictures of this can be found on our digital learning blog.

After this introduction to the programme we handed over the direction of our class project to the students. Our school became a 1-1 iPad school at the start of the academic year and as a result we decided to focus our collective efforts on Digital Citizenship. Students have been working in groups on projects to raise awareness of the different elements of digital citizenship. They were encouraged to take an active role in raising the awareness of digital citizenship with students, teachers and parents. Examples of student work include a Facebook page, website, theater piece for the primary students, plus many more. As part of their action element students will present these to the school community during break in two weeks time - pictures to follow!”

This illustrates the wide variety of ways in which participants can practise Advocacy, persuasion and promotion and show Active participation in decision making in the section Working with others.
