International Global Citizen's Award

encouraging young people to become better global citizens

Where do the Award plaques come from?

The wooden Award plaques come in various African designs (see photos for some examples).

Now we are in the award season you may like to look at a brief video clip of the craftsmen at the 'Co-operative Wend La Mita' in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso who make the Award plaques – at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gNss9JCKBw (This has a French commentary).

Wend La Mita translates to "God Understands" in the More language. Wend La Mita is one of a number of craft co-operatives set up in Burkina Faso specifically for the physically disadvantaged.

The craftsmen earn a living but also earn the respect of others for their ingenuity and skill in creating unique items.
