“The International Class is a group of 23 students between 16 and 17 years old. It is the closest we have to pre IB. Many of these students have lived and studied abroad, and are interested in joining the International Baccalaureate program offered here at the school.
The school has decided to include (our own) course called Meet the World as a part of the syllabus for the class – a…

Here at AIS Balikpapan, we have just given out our first years worth of Bronze awards. It was wonderful to see the students congratulated for their hard work and efforts over the last 12 months.
Our "year" has been a bit disjointed as we ran it from Term 3 2103 until Term 3 2014. When we first started in 2013 we had 8 students. By the start of 2014 we had just about all of our secondary campus involved (we are small but still!) It was great to see how the students were signing up…

Five students completed the bronze Award in the first year of the Award at the Jakarta International School. Sending the Award plaques to Indonesia was going to be an expensive business – benefiting the courier company more than the artisans in Burkina Faso making the plaques. Julie Pyburn reports “I wrote to you last May about sourcing a local memento and making a donation to a local charity. I followed through with this,…

Hi everyone
We have just kicked things off with a new cohort this year. We run our programme in the second semester - from now until the end of June. A couple of things from last year that will guide us in our practice this year.
1. We will continue to use an online forum, where discussion topics and resources are posted. Participants are required to add posts and comment on those of others. We use a moodle platform for this, and all relevant resources are shared here. This reduces…

Hello! We are trying to expand IGCA at ISL and we have a nice big group taking part! To kick things off we hosted a salon screening of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, which was a great success. I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts that you might have about turning this into a larger project

Hey guys
We are very new to the programme here at AIS Balikpapan but thought I would give a quick update as to how things were progressing. When we started the programme the students brainstormed their ideas about being a global citizen and what they wanted to achieve from being involved in the award programme. We are now meeting once a week, after school, and we alternate between having this meeting at school where we discuss issues, come up with ideas etc and on the alternate week…

This year we are looking at how to involve other students from around the school in the IGC award making process. We would like to try out an award panel formula, with students working on the International Award listening to the IGC students present their involvement and development during the IGC process this year. We hope there will be a lot of questions, discussion and hopefully some fundamental change in perspectives taking place. We will keep you posted!
Many thanks for the ideas…

Mona Sharma reports:
The five Gr. 12 students who completed their Bonze Level in March, received their awards and certificates on their Graduation day in April.
It was certainly a memorable moment for all of us.
The Gr.11 students have already signed up for the Silver level and have had a brilliant & wonderful experience where ‘understanding other cultures & outlooks’ go, when a group of 20 students & faculty visited Pathways from Mt. Madonna School, in…

Just a quick update as to how we are going with the IGC Award at Discovery College.
We have about 16 Bronze and 4 silver students.
As we have found it very difficult to find a lunch-time that suits all, we concentrate on having relevant discussions in online forums with the odd face-to-face meeting. This allows more flexibility, however we must ensure that students are active in forums to get the most benefit. To do this we set deadlines and ‘tick off’ students once they have…

At MBIS the IGC students have been undertaking further activities as follows:
1) Fund-raising Charity Day
The IGC Students planned and implemented a fund-raising charity day at MBIS. They set up a variety of stalls for students and parents to purchase home-made cakes and lemonade, second-hand goods and home-made arts/crafts. We also had a "Mufti Day" where students paid a voluntary contribution to come to school in non-uniform. The total raised was just over 10,000…

Here at Discovery College we have a small group of students working through the Award. They have been involved in working with others since the latter stages of last year, and how some recent presentations on Understanding others. Some interesting discussion was presented and discussed. Knowing that the students involved were busy every lunchtime with other clubs, music lessons, sport team training, I have tried to reduce face-to-face meeting time by putting greater emphasis to online…

The Award has been going from strength to strength here at AIS. Last year, our first year, we were able to get 7 students through the bronze level award, this year we have increased our students to a keen group of 20 participants. Considering our students are offered the opportunity as an additional activity as opposed to it forming a part of any formal curicullum, it came as a suprise that so many wished to join the group this year. I can only imagine that it received good press from…

Below is the view of one of our students about how the IGC Award at MBIS is going so far:
What did we do during this club?
The first day of the club, we have learned a little more about ourselves as global citizens. We did it by answering question that really helped us in to thinking what things we should keep doing and what things we should improve, in order to become very good global citizens. I was very enthusiastic of our first day of IGCA, because from that…
